Chester Racecourse, Chester
10th & 11th November, 2017

How it all works!

Here is our quick guide on how the 2017 Cheshire Beer Festival works!

The entrance is close to the finishing post of the racecourse, to the left after you go through the car park.

At the entrance either hand over your ticket, show your printed or phone Paypal receipt, or pay good old hard cash* to gain entry! (*subject to availability).

Once inside

You'll then be given a festival programme, and commemorative glass to keep.

There is no cash handling at the beer or cider bars, instead a voucher system is used.

These cost £5 per voucher and the beers and ciders are priced according to strength (between £1.60-£1.80 per half).

The programme gives tasting notes of the drinks to help you decide what to go for.

At the bar simply hand over your glass for filling, and then your beer voucher and our staff will cross off the value of the drink ordered.

You can buy more vouchers at any time and redeem unused values at the end of session (or pop them in the charity box).

CAMRA member

Show your membership card at the CAMRA stall under the stairs to gain your free drink voucher.

The stall has all the usual CAMRA goodies to purchase, and new members can sign up here and gain their free drink!

Most seating is upstairs in the Lounge although a small number of tables are available downstairs.

There is a lift available if required behind the stairs.

Also in the Lounge are some of our exhibitors, please pop up and have a look at their stalls.

The racecourse offers a dining menu in the Turf Restaurant to the left of the entrance.

Wine and soft drinks can be also be purchased here.

There are ample toilets in the main bar room, the Turf Restaurant, and upstairs in the Lounge, including full disabled access.

Smokers can use the far exit for popping out, and a wristband system will be used.

Beer Management

Unlike most festivals, we don't like to run out of all the best beers on the Friday leaving our Saturday customers with limited choice.

We manage the beer sales so that the entire range is available at the start of every session, even the final one.

During a session if we see that a beer has reached its sales limit for that session we bag it until the next one.

We think it's the fairest way to ensure all our customers get as much choice of all the beers as possible.

Some disagree with this philosophy but if you've travelled up for the Saturday evening we think you deserve a full choice at the start.

Champion Beer of Cheshire

The prestigious Champion Beer of Cheshire is independently judged during Friday morning and early afternoon with the winner being announced before doors open.

The winner is always a fast seller so if you want some check our social media or look for the winning sticker on the beer to find this years' champion.

The bands are listed on our dedicated entertainment page.

Pub Games

These are once again kindly sponsored by the Olde Cottage and can be found at the far end of the room.

Always a popular feature is the Bagatelle table where you can test your skills and gain a taster for the unique Chester Bagatelle League.

There is a cloakroom up the steps where the bands perform.  This is staffed by Richmond Court halfway house who use the proceeds for their Christmas meal.  It also gives vital work experience for them helping them get back into employment.

If you have a before 6pm ticket on the Friday, it gets you into the festival before 6pm, but you can stay right through to closing time!

On the Saturday, the afternoon and evening sessions are completely separate. We do close between the sessions. If you want to attend both Saturday sessions you will need a ticket for both, or pay on the door if we have any tickets left.
